I believe that teaching standards and standardized assessments serve a purpose, but it is more important to allow students to see themselves in the world and how they can play a role in changing the world. One of the most important aspects of teaching is allowing students to ask questions and learn from their experiences, even when they make mistakes – only then can educators correctly address the problems and concerns of the students. Allowing for many questions reinforces the openness and approachability an educator should have with their students.
